Disaster Preparedness - Helping your customers prepare, recover, and rebuild

In the span of less than 2 weeks, the US will deal with two significant hurricanes causing substantial destruction and even more anxiety about recovering. Much of 10-D’s staff have clients, friends and family who are directly impacted by these events and our hearts are with you. Since 10-D is located smack in the middle of the country (hello from Kansas City!), we are wholly unqualified to provide guidance related to weathering a hurricane. What we ARE qualified to do is forward resources when we see them come across our desks. On Tuesday, Sept 27, 2022, the CFPB issued a public service announcement reminding us of published guidance and available resources to help safeguard your finances in the event of disasters or emergencies which includes information related to:

  • Preparing for disasters and emergencies
  • Tackling housing issues
  • Managing your bills
  • Dealing with property damage
  • Protecting your finances
  • Helping others rebuild

  • These resources can be found at: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/consumer-tools/disasters-and-emergencies/.

FEMA also provides many resources including:

  • An Emergency Financial First Aid Kit, https://www.fema.gov/emergency-financial-first-aid-kit
  • Guidance on how to prepare for different types of emergencies and disasters, https://www.ready.gov/

  • If you have already been affected, here are a couple of places to begin:

  • Securing your finances after a disaster, https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/what-should-i-do-after-a-disaster-to-protect-my-finances-and-property-en-1513/
  • Determine if you qualify for assistance and start the application process, https://www.disasterassistance.gov/

  • If you or anyone you know could benefit from this information, you are welcome to forward this WST or publish it in part or whole to your institution’s website.

    Godspeed.
