THE ROLE

This position will help perform compliance audits of financial institution clients with an emphasis in Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA Patriot Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), OFAC and Customer Identification Program. The position holder may also help conduct audits of other regulatory compliance areas affecting financial institutions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Provide support on various functions within the compliance division

Assist in implementing an effective audit framework, with emphasis in BSA/AML/OFAC audits

Using industry standard and regulatory guidance sampling methods, conduct transaction testing of various processes, including but not limited to:

  • New accounts (customer information, customer & enhanced due diligence)
  • High-risk customers
  • Wire transfers
  • Monetary instruments
  • Regulatory reports (suspicious activity and currency transactions)

Accurate, complete and timely documentation of each analysis

Assess the effectiveness of compliance controls performed by financial institutions and document any gaps or performance deficiencies

Make independent decisions, confer with audit manager on complex assignments

Ensure appropriate records/files are maintained

Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to the job assignment

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services and regulatory trends that impact financial institutions
  • Proficient computer navigation skills using a variety of software packages, including Microsoft Office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to details
  • Basic understanding of BSA/AML laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with ACH operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an environment of extreme confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Demonstrate a discipline of continuous learning
  • Maintains a solid working knowledge (functional, operational and legal) of the rules and regulations, including but not limited to, BSA/AML, USA Patriot Act and OFAC as well as the bank’s policies and procedures
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to apply logic and reason
  • Proven attention to detail with ability to take broad direction and execute detailed actions effectively

REQUIREMENTS

  • Focus, attention to detail, problem-solving skills and a strong attitude in favor of high quality work
  • Ability to conduct logical investigations
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-task, high-volume environment
  • Good understanding of banking or financial business operations and systems
  • Prior experience in audit processes (gathering documentation for BSA exams and audits)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Two or more years of prior banking experience required, ideally with exposure to BSA/AML/OFAC and ACH processes
